Side Tabs

Side Tabs

Side tabs on trousers are a relatively recent addition to men's fashion and were first introduced in the early 20th century. Before side tabs, trousers were typically worn with braces, also known as suspenders, to keep them in place. However, as fashion changed and became more informal, side tabs began to replace braces as a more comfortable and less bulky alternative.

Side tabs are small strips of fabric that are located on the sides of the waistband of trousers, usually near the hip area. They are used to adjust the fit of the trousers by tightening or loosening the waistband. This allows for a more precise fit and eliminates the need for a belt.

The popularity of side tabs on trousers has waxed and waned over the years, with some periods seeing a resurgence in their use and others favoring belts or suspenders. Today, side tabs are still commonly used on dress trousers and are considered a stylish and practical detail.
